There is also a marina, which although not as illustrious as the ones in Puerto Banus or Benalmadena, is still a pleasent place to wander and see the cruisers and fishing boats. At the southern end of town is Sohail castle which was constructed in the 12th century by the Romans. Since it was recently renovated, many cultural events are staged here including the Festival Ciudad de Fuengirola.
Food and drink are particulaly well catered for with hundreds of bars and restaurants serving such diverse menus as good old British fish and chips to Spanish tapas. The world renowned "Fish Alley", ( c/ Moncayo), situated behind the Hotel el Puerto, is where you will find some of the best restaurants in town. A pleasant sight seeing trip by horse drawn carriage is one way to see what the resort has to offer.
The largest market on the Costa del Sol is held at the fair ground in Fuengirola on Tuesday mornings. Visitors from other resorts along the coast arrive by train, bus and also on organised excursions run by the major travel companies. The market gets very congested, so please take care of your handbags, wallets etc. Also beware of the gypsys who will try to sell you flowers or tablecloths while their accomplice dips into your pockets, bags, etc. There is also a boot sale on Saturdays held at the same venue with a smaller market near the Pyramides Hotel on Sundays, (10am - 2pm).
